The CFLOAA Annual Golf Tournament sponsored by Manulife was held on a very hot August 2nd at the Hylands Golf and Country Club on the South course with more golfers than last year. The event was again co-ordinated by CFLOAA Board member Gary Page, and everyone enjoyed the golf and, most of all, the camaraderie. Photos of the event were taken by Janna Glenn.
This year there was a focus on the Renegade years with footage of Renegade games being played during the luncheon on a large screen plus there was a large Renegades banner provided by Dick Dinelle. Mike Sutherland, former Renegade, and the PA announcer at TD Place, was scheduled to speak about the Renegade days but could not be due to a late family emergency.

The day began of with a special Start the Day donation of Tim Hortons coffee and Timbits donated by CFLOAA member Bill Houldsworth and his family (owners of 2 Tim Hortons).
Also, this year the Redblacks entered a foursome since they had a bye week. Included in the foursome was kicker Lewis Ward, Courtney Huestis (Manager Marketing Activation, and our Alumni Co-ordinator), Joe MacLeod (Head of Marketing), and Mark Pearson (Partnership Director). Redblack punter, Richie Leone, played in MC Jeff Avery’s foursome.

The 2024 raffle was very successful thanks to 4 major prizes (each valued at $400+) including an Apple watch donated by TELUS, 2 OTTO Club packages from the Redblacks, and an Eagle Creek foursome (with carts) from ClubLink, plus many other donations.
Other prizes for the Golf contest winners and the Raffle were donated by the Redblacks, Justin Wrigley of EXIT Realty Matrix Brokerage, Richard Hanoski and Bill Gosewitz of Ottawa-Carleton Mortgage,
BLG Law firm, Ken Vargo, Dick Dinelle, St Louis Ribs (Kanata South), Cedarhill Golf and Country Club, Canadian Golf & Country Club, Hometown Sports Grill, Local Heroes, Myers Orleans Chevrolet Buick GMC Motors, Chuck’s Roadhouse, Gary Page, and Stu Cameron.
A huge thanks to Dick Dinelle and his daughter Lisa, with help from Treasurer Dan Dever, for selling a record number of raffle tickets (many purchased using credit cards). Lisa also helped the winners to select the most appropriate item from the prize table.
Funds from the Raffle go to support the football programs at the University of Ottawa, Carleton University, and to the Support Fund of the CFL Alumni Association. The Support Fund offers financial support to CFL alumni who are experiencing financial hardship due to a medical condition or the sudden loss of income.
A good time was had by all!
