Dr. Don Young, outside wing on Ottawa’s first two Grey Cup victories in 1925 and 1926, born at Almonte, Ontario.  He passed away at Ottawa on March 2, 1988 at age 82.

Ottawa Rough Riders named Clem Crowe their new Head Coach.  He succeeds Wally Masters, who coached the Riders the past three seasons.  Crowe coached the Baltimore Colts of the NFL last season.

Jack Williams, Ottawa Rough Riders’ defensive end from 1982 to 1984, born at Cleveland, Ohio.

David Archer, Ottawa Rough Riders’ quarterback in 1996, born at Fayetteville, North Carolina.

At the College Draft, the Ottawa Rough Riders had three picks in the opening round.  Their first choice was Rick Black, a halfback from Mount Allison, Bill Miklas, a guard from Queen’s and Peter Quinn, a halfback from Queen’s.

Ottawa Rough Riders Head Coach, George Brancato, signed his former teammate, Tom Dimitroff, as the club’s offensive coach for the upcoming season.  Dimitroff was the Assistant Coach at Kansas State University in 1973.

At the CFL College Draft, the Ottawa Rough Riders chose UBC linebacker Steve Harrison with their first selection and Junior Robinson, a defensive back from University of Guelph, with their second choice.

The Canadian Football League announced that 48 free agents became available.  Eight were from the Ottawa Rough Riders.  They were running back Reggie Barnes, linebacker Brian Bonner, defensive backs Sean Foudy, Charles Gordon and Terrence Jones, defensive tackle Ron Prodanovic, guard Brad Tierney and defensive tackle Glenn Kulka.

Bruce Firestone, the former owner of the Ottawa Senators, has agreed to buy the Ottawa Rough Riders from the Canadian Football League for $1.8M.  The fee will be paid by a combination of ticket surcharges and proceeds from expansion fees.  The CFL took over the Riders from Bernie Glieberman.  The deal was announced at a press conference which also introduced the new management team for the club.  They included President Phil Kershaw, Head Coach Adam Rita and Personnel Consultant Mike McCarthy.  The group also introduced new colours and plans for a new logo for the team.

Ottawa Rough Riders free agents were offensive guard Carl Coulter, fullback Shawn Daniels, defensive tackle John Kropke and cornerback Charles Wright.

Ottawa Rough Riders’ President, Phil Kershaw, is expected to request permission from the Saskatchewan Roughriders to interview Jim Daley for the Head Coach position with the Ottawa club.  Daley is currently the Defensive Coordinator with Saskatchewan.  Others who are believed to be in the running are Calgary Stampeders’ Assistant Head Coach, John Hufnagel, and Edmonton Eskimos’ Offensive Coordinator Joe Paopao.

Eight Ottawa Rough Riders became free agents.  They are Bruce Beaton (offensive tackle), Daved Benefield (linebacker), Patrick Burke (defensive back), Jock Climie (slotback), Mike Graybill (offensive tackle), Chris Gioskos (guard), Glenn Kulka (defensive end) and Deal Noel (fullback).

Ottawa Renegades hired Daryl Edralin as their Special Teams Coach.  They also confirmed the signing of Woodrow Lowe Jr. as their defensive line coach.

Ottawa RedBlacks signed Diontae Spencer to a one-year deal.  He played with Toronto Argonauts the previous season.  The club also finalized a contract with defensive back A.J. Jefferson.

Ottawa RedBlacks signed receiver Nate Behar to a one-year contract.  He played with Edmonton Eskimos the previous season.
