In Memoriam – Whit Tucker

Whit Tucker passed away on October 16, 2024. A great teammate to many of our alumni and an inspiring player to all.

A product of the University of Western Ontario, Whit played his entire career with the Rough Riders. He was their standout flanker from 1962 to 1970. Among his many honours were the Outstanding Rookie in 1962, three-time Eastern All-Star, CFL All-Star in 1967, and induction to the Canadian Football Hall of Fame. He was a two-time Grey Cup champion with Ottawa in 1968 and 1969. Whit still holds the CFL record for highest career average gain receiving with 22.4 yards per catch.

His greatest game was in the 1966 Grey Cup when he caught 4 passes for 173 yards including 2 TDs of 61 and 85 yards.

He also was an amazing high school athlete in Windsor. When he was inducted into the Windsor Sports Hall of Fame, they described him as the best track athlete of his generation. He received a track scholarship at USC but chose to attend Western. He also played football, basketball and baseball.

Our condolences to Whit’s family and friends at this time. May he rest in peace.

The CFLOAA has made a donation to the CFLAA Support Fund in Whit’s memory.
