Before and at half-time there was an Oldtimers’ Reunion of the Ottawa Football teams over the years. Reports from both the Ottawa Citizen and Journal were that 184 former players were introduced. Some of the older vets included Jim Vaughan (1904 to 1915), George McCann (1914 and 1915), Jess Abelson (1909 to 1919) and Eddie Emerson (1912 to 1937). The oldest gentleman to show was Morley Walters at age 95. More recent vets included Lou Bruce, Pete Karpuk and Jake Dunlap.

Ottawa Rough Riders 36 Hamilton Tiger-Cats 23 at Civic Stadium in Hamilton before 29,960. Ottawa has outscored Hamilton 89-36 in the two games played this season. In this one, they scored 22 points in a space of 11 minutes in the second quarter. Russ Jackson found Margene Adkins for a 47-yard catch-and-run score then followed up with a 29-yard touchdown pass to Whit Tucker. Vic Washington rushed for his second touchdown of the half. Rough Riders led at halftime by a 29-1 score. In the third quarter, Jackson found Tucker again, this time for 33 yards for another major. That ended the Ottawa scoring. Joe Poirier, Ed Joyner, Billy Cooper and Soupy Campbell intercepted Hamilton tosses. Ottawa defensive unit led by Lehmann, Giardino, Gaines, Booth, Shirk and Cain, limited Hamilton to 109 yards rushing. The Riders’ record was 7-3-1.

British Columbia Lions 33 Ottawa Rough Riders 17 at Lansdowne Park in front of 21,280. Riders had an 11-1 advantage after the opening 15 minutes mainly on the play of quarterback JC Watts. He was good on seven of eight passes, hitting David Newman for Ottawa’s only major of the game. Early in the second quarter, he was taken from the field on a stretcher and was replaced by David Marler. Unfortunately, Marler was intercepted four times the rest of the way. Ottawa’s record was 4-10-0.

Winnipeg Blue Bombers 18 Ottawa Rough Riders 16 at Lansdowne Park on Thanksgiving Day. Ottawa scored on the final play of the game on a Todd Dillon to Mark Barousse 51-yard touchdown pass and run play. The attempt at a two-point convert to tie the game was not successful. Dillon came on in relief of Gilbert Renfroe and completed 21 of 34 passes for 243 yards. Dean Dorsey kicked three field goals and a single. John Hufnagel completed 30 of 43 attempts for 311 yards for the Bombers.

Calgary Stampeders 44 Ottawa Rough Riders 24 at Calgary before 18,761. Pee Wee Smith returned the opening kickoff 69 yards which led to the game’s first touchdown at 1:12 on a 26-yard run by Eric Mitchel. In total, the Stamps scored 21 points in the opening quarter. Reggie Barnes carried the ball 20 times for 99 yards to bring his season yardage to 1,267. Damon Allen was only good on 14 of 29 attempts for 167 yards and was intercepted twice. The Riders record dropped to 6-9-0, third in the East Division.

Ottawa Renegades 21 Toronto Argonauts 15 at Frank Clair Stadium before a Thanksgiving Day crowd of 25,133. The Renegades improved their record to 7-10-0, tied for second in the East Division with the Argos. Kerry Joseph tossed TD passes to Sherrod Gideon in the first quarter and later to D.J. Flick. The first TD pass set an Ottawa football record for Joseph. It was the 15th consecutive game in which he had thrown at touchdown pass, bettering Russ Jackson’s record of 14 games. Darren Joseph had seven special-teams tackles. Lawrence Tynes kicked two field goals, converted each touchdown and collected a single. He led the CFL in scoring with 192 points, 19 points ahead of BC Lions’ Curtis Head. Prior to the game the Renegades introduced the members of the 1973 Grey Cup champions, Ottawa Rough Riders (20 year Reunion).
